Good news for Belgian track cyclists: they will soon be able to compete in the European championship in their own country. Decor will be the brand new track home in Heusden-Zolder.
"We went for the very best," says Minister of Sports Ben Weyts. "A fast track, with Finnish pine, of Olympic level." The Belgian track and field teams will prepare the Paris Olympic Games in Heusden-Zolder. "Foreign teams are also interested in coming to train here for the Olympic Games," says Weyts.
"The contracts have been received," says former cyclist and driving force behind the project Marc Wauters. "We will soon announce which European championships it concerns."
And that's not all. In 2030 - 200 years after the founding of our country - Heusden-Zolder wants to organize the Track Cycling World Championships. "We would really like to win that," Wauters beams.
