Mark Cavendish surprisingly left out in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award nominations

Although there were some doubts, Mark Cavendish's professional cycling career has finally come to a wrap after a historical 35th Tour de France stage victory.
Yet this accomplishment was not enough in the eyes of BBC Sports Personality of the Year jury who didn't enter the Manxman's name among candidates for the prestigious British trophy.
Selected instead were: the teenage darts sensation Luke Littler, Olympic 800 metres champion Keely Hodgkinson, 19-time Paralympic champion Sarah Storey, triathlon Olympic champion Alex Yee, England cricket-run machine Joe Root and footballer Jude Bellingham.
