"It's annoying, but there's nothing to do" - Eddy Merckx back in hospital after complications

Cycling legend Eddy Merckx has been admitted to hospital again. The greatest rider of all time recently turned 80, and needs a new hip replacement.

As revealed on HNL, Merckx has been admitted to hospital in Antwerp as he needs a new hip replacement due to complications. After the operation, he will remain in hospital for 10 days.

This setback is not unexpected. The Eddy Merckx himself told last June that, on December 10, doctors fitted him with a titanium prosthesis, "but it didn't work, it wouldn't adhere."

"I have been to the hospital 2 times already and now it seems I have bacteria on my skin. I have to take strong antibiotics for twelve weeks, 2700 milligrams a day. I've done the math: by July 18 I'll be done. It's annoying, but there's nothing to do," Merckx added in those statements.
