Unlucky Michael Vanthourenhout skips GP Sven Nys Baal last minute

Michael Vanthourenhout has had a few very strong races this season and is currently in the lead of the World Cup, his new prime goal. The X2O Badkamers Trofee classification will be forgotten as the Belgian will skip the GP Sven Nys Baal after a string of bad luck that has been affecting.
Last week in Zonhoven Vanthourenhout already found several unexpected obstacles, including a shoe change which severely hampered his result and saw his gap come down in relation to several of his rivals. Another less good performance in Besançon saw Toon Aerts creep in closer to the lead, whilst Mathieu van der Poel will also be a threat as he will race three out of the four remaining World Cups and seems unbeatable.
Yesterday in Diegem Vanthourenhout seemed to be involved in a crash away from the cameras and also had a shoe change necessary during the race. It ended being a disaster for the Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal rider who ended up abandoning the race close to it's finish.
This morning he woke up sick according to the Belgian team and will be missing out on the first race of 2025, alongside female teammate Denise Betsema who is experiencing knee issues.

Lotto simply dont have the resources to follow up and thats why they are allowing him to do his own thing. Another reason you can’t just add the if that suits your argument is that you then have to factor in everyone else’s ifs for theirs. What if Kwiat hadn’t crashed with Dumoulin on stage 3 when Visma were on the attack. What if Visma’s had changed strategy earlier with a more dangerous Tadej, how would Tadej have fared or ridden if he had led earlier? Primoz is an excellent time trialer, especially with such a climb, it wasn’t to be expected Tadej could knock off 2 minutes on him and the best back then, even he couldn’t have known he’d manage. - I'm calling bullshit on this entire story and Jose. In a face-to-face conversation with a world class rider that I trained and raced with for decades, he relayed to me the story of Lance's doping through a teammate that was briefly on US Postal. To be on the team, to be able to contribute to Armstrong's cheating and fraud REQUIRED that teammates also dope. Jose's results don't come from just bread and water. Remember Armstrong never tested 'positive'.
ChoppyWarburton03-01-2025 - It's not a certainty but he would have been far ahead if not for that mechanical based on the outcome that we saw unfold. If I'm not mistaken he only lost a little time on one mountain stage after that issue but regained it, I can't remember which stages though. I'd have to look up the stage data.
