In early November, Thibau Nys took the biggest victory of his burgeoning career to date in Pontevedra as he saw off the challenge of home crowd favourite Felipe Orts to take the European Championship title. The location of the 2026 European Cyclocross Championship has now been revealed.

In the autumn of 2026, some of the biggest names in cyclocross will battle for the coveted European title in the Netherlands, as the Zeddam course, famous for a thrilling 2006 World Championship that saw both Erwin Vervecken and Marianne Vos claim rainbow jerseys, returns to one of the biggest stages in the sport.

“The municipality of Montferland is proud to be the host municipality for the 2026 European Cyclocross Championships in Zeddam with its beautiful surroundings,” says Marije Eleveld, Alderman for Sports in the Municipality of Montferland. “This event is a historic milestone: 20 years after the successful Cyclocross World Championships in 2006, we can once again be the setting for this top sporting event. Together with the other 8 Achterhoek municipalities, we are enthusiastically committed to this special event and we are looking forward to a sporting and successful championship!”

“We are very excited about the preparations for the 2026 European Cyclo-cross Championships, which will be held in Zeddam, in the picturesque municipality of Montferland in the Netherlands. This region is not only imbued with a true passion for cycling, but also with a tradition that has always contributed to writing important pages in the history of our sport," adds UEC President Enrico Della Casa. " The choice of Montferland for this event is no coincidence, as the beauty of the area, the warmth of the enthusiasts and the extraordinary organizational experience of the region make it an ideal setting to welcome the best athletes on the continent... We are convinced that the Achterhoek, and specifically Zeddam and Montferland, will be able to welcome the athletes, fans and enthusiasts in the best possible way and will offer a unique spectacle that will not only honour cyclo-cross, but European cycling as a whole.”

Full information on the specifics of the course are not yet known, although it is expected that the iconic, more than 100 step flight of stairs on the course will again feature.
