The 2024 European Cyclocross Championships will be held this weekend in Pontevedra. For this reason, this year's edition is very special for Spain, which knows that it has to give its all in each of the races to give as many joys as possible to the local public.
For the home nation, the start of this European Championship could not have been better. In the Team Relay event, the Spanish team has managed to scratch metal and take a brutal bronze medal. Ahead were only Italy, gold, and France, silver. Felipe Orts, who was in charge of concluding the race for Spain and certifying that 3rd position, spoke to CyclingUpToDate right after finishing a race in which he was the fastest of all participants: "The truth is that I have had good feelings", begins Orts.
"As I said before the race, this is a track that when you go fast it changes a lot and becomes very different. I know what it's like to go full throttle here. I felt good and it's a circuit I like. You really go in a group, but you have to stop and start a lot, then the race breaks easily. The rain that fell was light and didn't affect anything," concludes Felipe Orts, who is already preparing for Sunday's elite men's race.
The bronze medal was won by a truly great team that, in addition to Felipe Orts, included Miguel Rodríguez, Benjamín Noval, Lorena Patiño, Aroa Otero and Sofía Rodríguez.
We remind you that this Sunday you can follow on Eurosport / Discovery+, all the main races of the European Championships in Pontevedra.
