Gerben Kuypers will not be seen for the remainder of the 2023/24 cyclocross campaign. The 23-year-old Belgian has been forced into an early season end due to health problems.
“Gerben contracted a viral infection a few weeks ago and has ended up in a vicious circle of disturbed recovery and fatigue. He mainly had respiratory complaints. Thanks to rest, his body is now recovering well. We expect him to be fully recovered within a few weeks,” explains Intermarché - Wanty's team doctor Paul Jorna.
“After two weeks of rest, I am progressively gaining energy, although I must admit that I do not feel as before for the time being,” adds Kuypers himself in a press release. “We have therefore decided that it is wiser to opt for a calm approach than to focus on my last appointments in the field under time pressure. It was of course extremely unfortunate and frustrating that my good series of results came to an end due to health problems.”
