Annemiek van Vleuten made a shock return to racing on Sunday afternoon, just a week after her retirement from professional cycling became official.
Racing in a national cyclocross race in the Netherlands, Kasteelcross Vorden, the legendary Dutchwoman took home a 17th placed finish from her efforts. Although usually much more accustomed to fighting at the head of the race, van Vleuten had to cede her superiority on this occasion.
Winner on the day was Mirre Knaven, with Ilse Pluimers and Wendy Oosterwoud completing the podium in Vorden.
