In the penultimate race of the women’s cyclocross World Cup
season,
Blanka Kata Vas secured a stunning victory at the World Cup
Maasmechelen. Vas clinched the win on the final lap, edging out Zoe Backstedt
and Lucinda Brand.
Speaking to Wielerflits after her triumph, Vas expressed her
joy. “After three years I am back at the top. I think it is worth it. Sometimes
it is very difficult to stay in Belgium all winter. So yes, I am very happy to
win now.”
Reflecting on her hard-fought victory, Vas added, “I think
this is the reward for the hard work I put in over the past few years.” She
credited her preparation and strategy for the win. “I practiced a lot for that.
We came here yesterday. And this morning I did the banked side five times. It
was also smart to only change bikes once. That allowed me to return to the
front.”
Vas remained focused until the very end of the race, despite
the pressure from Zoe Backstedt. “At a certain point, just before the last
running part, I thought: this one is in. But luckily I looked back. I saw Zoe
coming, full throttle. But luckily I still had something in my legs for the
sprint.”
Now, Vas looks ahead to her next challenges. “I am going to
focus on recovery now. Maybe I can enjoy a few days after the World Cup.”
