“After three years I am back at the top” – Delighted Blanka Kata Vas reacts to World Cup Maasmechelen win

In the penultimate race of the women’s cyclocross World Cup season, Blanka Kata Vas secured a stunning victory at the World Cup Maasmechelen. Vas clinched the win on the final lap, edging out Zoe Backstedt and Lucinda Brand.
Speaking to Wielerflits after her triumph, Vas expressed her joy. “After three years I am back at the top. I think it is worth it. Sometimes it is very difficult to stay in Belgium all winter. So yes, I am very happy to win now.”
Reflecting on her hard-fought victory, Vas added, “I think this is the reward for the hard work I put in over the past few years.” She credited her preparation and strategy for the win. “I practiced a lot for that. We came here yesterday. And this morning I did the banked side five times. It was also smart to only change bikes once. That allowed me to return to the front.”
Vas remained focused until the very end of the race, despite the pressure from Zoe Backstedt. “At a certain point, just before the last running part, I thought: this one is in. But luckily I looked back. I saw Zoe coming, full throttle. But luckily I still had something in my legs for the sprint.”
Now, Vas looks ahead to her next challenges. “I am going to focus on recovery now. Maybe I can enjoy a few days after the World Cup.”

I said Grand Tour GC would be less interesting with only one of them. They perform head and shoulders above the rest but can beat other. If only one was present then the interest in grand tour GC is less since they’d likely dominate the field. Competition is fun. If neither are there then the field is together much closer like at the Vuelta last year. GC was fun the whole way through. Shame you can’t see the interest in any race if you feel it’s only about who wins or is likely to. On the one hand people enjoy knowing one or both exist, on the other hand they moan when one is partipating. - It's not wrong if Jonas sticks to a plan and be as calculated as he can most of the time. While, it may seem boring, that's how they got an impulsive rider like Tadej worn out on stage 11 of TdF 2022. Of course, that also means that he didn't know how to read the room and adapt. One clear example is stage 6 of TdF 2023 where he was, in fact, riding at the front for Tadej after failing to drop him before Tadej attacked and dropped him.KerisVroom10-03-2025
