There was a flood of compliments for Remco Evenepoel in Wollongong. In the aftermath of the finish, the Belgian team was ecstatic, and Yves Lampaert was filled with praise for him. "Becoming world champion like that is only given to the great ones," Yves Lampaert told Sporza.
"It's really incredible. We rode the perfect course. We never had to defend, it was perfect. Pieter Serry rode a powerful race," Lampaert said. "We saw that the French organized themselves and we reacted well to that. It couldn't have been better. I found it strange that all the countries stayed so calm when Remco and Quinten slid along in the chase."
He revealed he was not worried about the end result, especially after the solo ride of Remco Evenepoel. "When Remco attacks from there and takes a minute, you already know he wins. That was perfect for us. And we still had Wout van Aert, should it have come together again. We can be proud of how we rode,” said Lampaert.
It is worth mentioning that Remco is only 22 years old and he has already won the World Championship title, which makes Lampaert even more proud and happy for his teammate. "This is given to very few. Jean-Pierre Monseré was younger and so was Eddy Merckx . But then you also mention the names, lol. What Remco is doing is phenomenal. I'm going to drink a few pints on it tonight," Lampaert concluded.

World Champion 2022! 🇧🇪🌈🥇🔥 Dreams do come true, can’t wait to wear the Rainbow Jersey next season!! 🙏🏼 Thanks to the entire team for the amazing work today, a perfect race for us and very proud to finish it off!! 👊🏼 We are Belgium ❤️
