After a Covid-19 infection, Wout van Aert is set to find out if he will be riding Paris-Roubaix or not in the coming days as Jumbo-Visma will do a recon ride in the cobbles of northern France. The race was a very big goal for the Belgian champion, however it is unclear still whether he will be present or not. The rumour that is emerging is that he will be extending his spring campaign into Liège-Bastogne-Liège in order to try and make good use of his current form.
Het Laatste Nieuws reports that the Belgian champion will be prolonging his spring schedule into Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Alongside Primoz Roglic, Jonas Vingegaard and Tiesj Benoot, van Aert can be one of the big favourites coming into the race if he doesn't have domestique duties as Jumbo-Visma are planning to have a very strong team and he has in the past shown the capacity to ride with the best in the hills.
Despite being a race very well suited to his attributes, this would in fact be his debut in La Doyenne. With the cobbled classics and the Tour de France as his main goals of the season, he has often skipped through the Ardennes classics in order to favor resting and preparation. As it came right after the cobbled classics he has in the past raced Amstel Gold Race where he's won the 2021 edition, but with a positive test for Covid right before the Tour des Flandres, his spring calendar was disrupted and may see him targeting the Ardennes instead.
