Joxean Fernández Matxín's
UAE Team Emirates bet on bringing sprinter Sebastián Molano to the Vuelta a España and the Colombian came close to giving the team a first victory on stage four.
The UAE manager explained to Eurosport at the arrival in Tarragona the reason why his pupil could not win. "It was a pity, because the idea was not to start where he started, he sprinted at 500 meters because of the crash, but the idea was to do it at 200 meters and try to face the sprint in the lead, we knew there was an uphill straight, but once we saw that there was a gap to Groves it was better not to stop. He did the right thing and simply Kaden Groves was better in this case, we lost a battle, but there are many more to go."
Regarding the team's objectives in the Vuelta a España, Matxín said that they are very confident and hope to achieve a stage win with Molano in a sprint and fight for the overall with Juan Ayuso, Joao Almeida, Marc Soler and Jay Vine:
"Sincerely we are confident, we are optimistic, we know that Molano is one of the best sprinters in the Vuelta and we will fight with him in the mass finishes and the overall with the guys in the mountains".
