The future of
Jumbo-Visma hasn't been totally clear in recent months. Struggles to find a sponsor to replace the Jumbo supermarket chain and a collapse of the proposed merger with
Soudal - Quick-Step have raised concerns but according to
Merijn Zeeman, the worries could be over.
"Very good companies have committed to this team, allowing us to further expand the team. It is true that we spoke with Soudal Quick-Step, but that was more exploratory," explains the team's sports director in conversation with De Telegraaf. "We also sat down with
Remco Evenepoel, but it was also exploratory with him."
"What suits our team best, what ambitions, how realistic is it, the advantages and disadvantages, does it make us better or not? This has been investigated by a number of people. Throughout this process, we have constantly informed everyone within the team about what is going on."
The likes of Amazon were even linked to becoming sponsors and both they and the merger Soudal - Quick-Step fell through, Zeeman is optimistic for what is to come for his all-conquering team. "We want to continue making history over the next ten years and I can say that after the wonderful time with Jumbo, we are entering a new chapter," he says. "It is now certain that we can continue to build on this team in the coming years. Am I saying that the future is assured? Yes absolutely, although I can't go into details."
