Vuelta a Espana stage 16 highlights as Vingegaard prevails on emotional day for Jumbo-Visma

Jumbo-Visma had an extra fire in the bellies on stage 16 of the 2023 Vuelta a Espana after learning of the serious car crash of their Belgian teammate, Nathan Van Hooydonck. Jonas Vingegaard took a brilliant victory and dedicated it to his 'best friend', who remains in hospital.

Ahead of the final climb of the day, the Jumbo-Visma team were told through their radios, that Van Hooydonck had awoken from his induced coma and this inspired Vingegaard, who launched a vicious attack with 4km to go that no one had an answer for. For a moment it looked as if Vingegaard may even take the Red Jersey off Sepp Kuss, but the American held on to retain the overall race lead.
