Vittoria Guazzini takes victory at 2024 Le Samyn des Dames as breakaway hold off peloton in thrilling finale

Vittoria Guazzini of FDJ - Suez has taken victory at the 2024 edition of Le Samyn des Dames on the historic cobbles of Belgium.

After three women got themselves into the day's breakaway, the trio of Karlijn Swinkels, Anniina Ahtosalo and Anneke Dijkstra held an advantage of around 20 seconds as they headed into the final 10km. Then with 6km to go, they were joined by Christina Schweinberger and Vittoria Guazzini, clear of the peloton despite a frantic chase.

Through the last cobble section the quintet were in sight of the peloton, with just 2km to go. In the end, the break just about held on, with Guazzini taking the win ahead of Ahtosalo and Schweinberger.
