Vincenzo Nibali: "For Enric Mas, the Giro d'Italia would be perfect"

Turning 29 before his next Grand Tour, Enric Mas is reaching a crossroads in his career. With the added signing of Nairo Quintana, Mas needs now more than ever to reaffirm his Grand Tour ambitions.

According to legendary Italian and multiple-time Grand Tour winner, Vincenzo Nibali, the upcoming Giro d'Italia could be the chance the Movistar Team leader has been waiting for. "The big three are very different. The Tour is the most complicated because it is a war every day. I think that for Enric Mas, a Giro d'Italia would be perfect for him," Nibali tells Marca. "It is similar to La Vuelta and could give a great level."

Referencing the route and profile of the 2024 Giro d'Italia, many have given the analysis that it is an easier race than in previous editions. "Those of us who know the Giro know that this is not the case because it is highly technical and everything can change," Nibali explains, pointing there remains plentiful challenges at the Giro.

"There will be a fight from the first week," Nibali insists. "In 2023 we have seen a different Giro that was decided in the end by the cold, the rain, the Lussari time trial... it was difficult to make a forecast. This new Giro presents a very technical route that will give surprises."
