VIDEO: Tour of Flanders goes full cyclocross as Mathieu van der Poel flies past riders brought to standstill on wet Koppenberg

The 2024 Tour of Flanders has gone back in time as the wet cobbles of the Koppenberg caused chaos to seemingly all in the bunch other than Mathieu van der Poel.
Movistar Team's Ivan Garcia Cortina came into the climb leading but was forced to a complete standstill and could only watch as the Rainbow Jersey came flying past. As van der Poel skipped from cobble to cobble, the rest of the peloton were forced to run, bike on the shoulder as seen in cyclocross over the winter or in Tour of Flanders of old.

- This is very surprising. Tadej lost by such a big margin on TT. MvDP doesn't train much for TT, yet he's up there. Can't imagine what's it like if he really trains for TT. But I suspect that he's stretched too thin across multiple disciplines.

- He needs another team. The dominence of Pogacar in UAE must be suffocating for him. He must have known what he signed up to? I guess the assured long contract money dazzled him. Ironically MvdP was just about the only rider not doing cyclocross. The others should probably think again before taking that up, unless it is to learn how to deal with a climb like this :-)
