Christophe Laporte is the new
European Championships winner and boy did he have to fight for his victory in the closing metres.
After attacking solo with 12km to go, Laporte looked to have an unassailable lead heading into the final kilometre but an incredible effort from
Arnaud De Lie brought
Wout van Aert back into contention and as the Belgian launched his sprint with
Olav Kooij on his wheel, Laporte looked to pedalling squares. Giving one final push though, the Frenchman narrowly managed to hold on for a career-defining victory.
