The main contenders are two Italian formations:
Team Polti VisitMalta and
VF Group-Bardiani-CSF-Faizane, who seem to be ahead, and two Swiss teams: Q36.5 Pro Cycling and Tudor Pro Cycling. All the competitors have something speaking in their favor and therefore the decision is not made any easier for Vegni.
It is assumed that Tudor Pro Cycling, through its parternship but also undeniable sporting quality, wouldn't be left without an invitation. But further it's a riddle that won't be solved until next week.
VF Group-Bardiani-CSF-Faizane rode a good race in 2024 thanks to Giulio Pellizzari, but they lack a big name for 2025 and besides the nationality, they don't have much else playing in their favor. On the other hand
Team Polti VisitMalta has a long-lasting relationship with Giro organization and managers with great contacts. In addition, the 22-year-old Davide Piganzoli could turn out to be an interesting protagonist, given the chance to participate.
And finally, there is Q36.5 Pro Cycling. The team has obvious link to Italian cycling with former two-time Maglia Ciclamino winner Giacomo Nizzolo, another sprinter Matteo Moschetti and stage hunter Gianluca Brambilla in its ranks. And I don't need to get started on the prospect of Tom Pidcock at the start (as unlikely as it is)...
