The wife of two-time Tour de France winner
Jonas Vingegaard stirred up water early this weak with controversial statements about the tactics of Visma | Lease a Bike for Tour de France, claiming her husband deserves a complete devotion of his teammates who shall forsake their own ambitions.
"She should stay completely out of that talk about making tactics for the cycling team, because it puts Jonas in an unusually bad situation here in the middle of the Tour de France," says
Michael Rasmussen at
Ekstra Bladet and continues. "It seems incredibly amateurish that he doesn't know what is being said in that interview."
Rasmussen notes that the couple needs to sit down and draw a clear line of what should not be said: "One must assume that they will be able to coordinate a little bit in relation to what goes on over the counter up in Glyngøre. They are probably not so busy that they cannot talk to each other," he sounds hopeful.
One of the world's top teams naturally brought the best riders they have to Tour and the likes of Wout Van Aert certainly deserve their piece of cake too. Something Vingegaard's wife doesn't support, suggesting all teammates should work exclusively for the Dane.
She went as far as to suggest that if such plan is not carried out by the team, then it would point towards problems at the manager level. "There must be some people at Visma | Lease a Bike who are simply furious that this has come out," Rasmussen senses blood.
"What will the atmosphere be like when she teams up for the Tour, when she has to stand and look the other riders in the eye? Well, it's okay that there are cycling wives who, left and right, say how the cycling teams should run the sporting part, and she should stay completely out of that. There are competent people to manage that, and Trine is absolutely not competent in terms of cycling tactical considerations," Rasmussen carried out his stern judgement.
