Tim Wellens, Nils Politt, Marc Hirschi & Antonio Morgado spearhead multi-faceted UAE Team Emirates at Tour of Flanders in Tadej Pogacar's absence

With Tadej Pogacar set to enjoy a spell at altitude ahead of the Giro d'Italia, UAE Team Emirates will have to adopt a different tactic in their plan for victory at the Tour of Flanders.
Operating without any clear favourite for the race, UAE Team Emirates instead have opted for a multi-faceted team full of strength and differing options. According to the team's official announcement for the lineup, "The experienced duo of Tim Wellens and Nils Politt will spearhead a strong team who will go in search of defending the crown won by Tadej Pogacar in 2023."
"We’re in good spirits and very motivated coming into Flanders this year. These classics have been a big goal of mine for the first part of the season and we want to do as well as possible," previews Wellens. "It’s been a good classics period for us so far and we have been present in many finales, though we would like to be closer to the podium as always. Our team is strong with a good atmosphere and attitude to give our best on Sunday.”
Aside from the aforementioned duo of Wellens and Politt, the impressive Portuguese prodigy, Antonio Morgado and the one-day specialist, Marc Hirschi also offer intriguing options for the team with Mikkel Bjerg, Alessandro Covi and Vegard Stake Laengen complete the lineup.

Two of the top riders are Zoe and Schreiber and both under 23 yet that have done 50 min races in the past with the elites so I think it's just bad clock management. Let them race 50 freakin' minutes! - I think this was because there were junior women in the race. If a race has junior women am pretty sure it has to be less than 45 minutes. I believe a rule is coming in for next season that will fine organisers that don't put on a junior women's race a fine equivalent to the prize money. For every news about Jonas, MVdP or Wout there are 10 times more(!) news about Pidcock (like everyday for last 2 months?). - Why do the women CXs keep getting short changed with the length of theor races? They could have easily done another lap to put them at 50 minutes which is their time limit. Yet another CX race where they fail to reach this when they had a chance to. Come on ... the math isn't that hard to figure out lap times and divide into 50 min!frieders318-11-2024
- All pro cyclists are massively underpaid! The amount of riding and physical exertion they put their bodies through is crazy compared to other sports. I can't think of any other sport where you are physically active at a very high level of power output for hours on end each day.Pogboom17-11-2024
