Colnago was known years ago for not having an aero bike, which led several sprinters to leave UAE Team Emirates into others teams. Today, they have announced a new bike which they claim to be 19% more aerodynamic than the V4R bikes. The Colnago Y1Rs will certainly be used by all top riders in the UAE team from next season onwards.
The bike is also said to be 3.5% stiffer according to Colnago, featuring quite a distinctive handlebar shape but also notable aero details mostly in the rear side of the frame. It's also claimed to require 20 watts less than the V4R's at a speed of 50Km/h and comes at a starting price of around €10.000. For the pro riders, with their specific details, it should likely be an even more expensive machine, but one that can also lead to great success.
Whilst the team only has one head sprinter in Juan Sebastián Molano, it will greatly benefit from this bike in the classics whilst it's climbers will also likely want to use it in the flat races/stages they encounter. The bike will be officially announced by the team this Monday afternoon in Spain, with more insight from it's developers to follow in the coming days with certainty.
