Egan Bernal showed some signs of the rider that took Tour de France and Giro d'Italia victories in the past during the recent Tour Colombia.
After a few rough years on the road to recovery after a horrific crash that had threatened to not only end his career but could've ended the diminutive Colombian climber's life. "For me a top 5 in the GC that gives me confidence to go to Europe," writes Bernal on his official Instagram after securing fifth overall at the Tour Colombia on Sunday.
At his peak Bernal was widely considered one of the best Grand Tour riders in the world and claimed notable successes such as the aforementioned Tour de France and Giro d'Italia. Since his horror crash however, Bernal has understandably looked a shell of his former self.
After completing two Grand Tours last year and now a positive showing at this Tour Colombia however, there is reason to be optimistic for the INEOS Grenadiers star. "The battle with myself continues and I enjoy it more and more," Bernal concludes.
