Jumbo-Visma was in attack mode during stage 6, with Wout Van Aert up the road while Sepp Kuss and Wilco Kelderman launched their leader Jonas Vingegaard on Col du Tourmalet. Frankly, they couldn't shake off Tadej Pogacar who shattered their hopes of stage win with less than 3 km to go.
"That is not exactly what we had hoped for," Kelderman said to NOS afterwards. "But you know, we just went all-in," the Dutchman from Jumbo-Visma immediately added. "Yesterday he was strong, but yes. We are still in good shape, let me put it this way."
On Wednesday, heading to Laruns, Vingegaard took over a minute on Pogacar. Now the roles were reversed and it was the Slovenian who gained time. A surprise? "I didn't expect this either, no. But yes, what can I say about it?"
How does Kelderman feel about this stage? "We are in yellow. That's the positive. There are still many stages to go and Jonas is very strong. There are still many stages that suit him well."
