Miguel Angel Lopez cannot compete in the Colombian national championships because he is provisionally suspended by the UCI for doping for being implicated in Operation Ilex for his alleged association with Dr. Marcos Maynar.
Despite this, the former Astana rider has criticized the Colombian Cycling Federation for having forgotten about him in the national championships that are being held these days. On Thursday, Daniel Martínez won gold in the time trial, succeeding Miguel Ángel López, who had won the title the previous year.
Thus, despite the fact that he cannot compete, a hurt Lopez, who considers that he has not committed any irregularity, wrote a message in an Instagram story in that he regretted not being in the Nationals and threw a barb or two in the direction of the championships organisers.

The truth is that the future of Miguel Angel Lopez in cycling will depend on the sentence that takes place in Spain in reference to Operation Ilex and his alleged involvement. The UCI has evidence from the Guardia Civil of his guilt, which is why he has been unable to race for a few months now, although his sanction is not yet final. He faces a 4-year sanction that would end his career.
