Tadej Pogacar will be one of the men to beat at today's Flèche Wallone and he has talked about where he and UAE Team Emirates stand in terms of strategy and feeling for the day.
“It was a pity that I couldn't start last year, but it has already been forgotten. We are happy to be there now. We are here as a team to win, we have a very strong team. We will work hard towards the end and do our best," he told reporters. “I think this course is slightly different, but it is still possible to attack from afar. We'll see how the race evolves. Is everyone going to race conservatively? It will be a decision in the race.”
Asked on who would the team be working for, knowing that the likes of Marc Hirschi and Juan Ayuso will also be at the start as very strong outsiders, Pogacar has said: "Maybe for both of us, maybe for three of us. We want to get to the last lap with as many riders as possible. Marc is in good shape, I feel good too. We will certainly discuss during the race who can go the farthest.”
“It is quite windy and there are open areas where fans can be drawn. So it will be nervous towards the local laps. It's going to be hectic, but everyone will be ready," he concluded, regarding the weather conditions the riders are expecting today.
