The folks at Relevo have brought forward a piece of news in the cycling market: former MotoGP rider Aleix Espargaró is set to sign for Lidl-Trek.

The Catalan biker (he has just retired at the age of 35 after two decades in the World Championship competing in different categories) is a cycling lover and on social networks we have been able to see him training during the last years. However, it was not expected that he would make the leap to professionalism. Thus, according to Relevo, Espargaró, who in 2021 was close to signing for Movistar Team, will land in a Lidl-Trek that has the 30 full chips for next season, so he could end up having a chip in the development team.

Without knowing exactly his role at the moment, we have seen him training in recent years with riders such as José Joaquín Rojas, Joachim Rodríguez or Juanjo Lobato. Also, with two current Lidl-Trek riders, Carlos Verona and Juanpe López, who could be his teammates next season.

Tremendous news for Espargaró, a cycling lover who seems to be able to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional after a great career in the world of motorbikes. After passing through the 125cc and 250cc categories without shining too much, in MotoGP, the premier class of motorcycling, he made a name for himself, finishing his career with 3 victories, 11 podiums and 5 fastest laps. His best year was 2022, when he finished fourth in the World Championship.
