Søren Waerenskjold takes time-trial win at the Baloise Belgium Tour as Van der Poel takes overall race lead

Søren Waerenskjold of the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team clocked the fastest time on the stage 3 individual time-trial at the Baloise Belgium Tour as Mathieu van der Poel moved into the overall race lead.

Stage 3 of the race should be the most crucial one for the overall classification, as meaningful gaps can be created in the individual time-trial. Pan-flat, but in 15 kilometers it is possible to take quite a lot of time for such a small race. It may not decide the race, but into the hilly day there will be a clear set of rider who will have the advantage.

Setting down an impressive early marker time, Alex Edmondson of Team DSM was in the hotseat for well over an hour thanks to his effort of 17:22.

Finally, Edmondson was unseated by Søren Waerenskjold of the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team, putting in the best time by 13 seconds.

Yves Lampaert went faster than the Norwegian at the intermediate time check. By the line however, Lampaert had faded somewhat, finishing 12 seconds down on Waerenskjold.

After surviving the challenge of Mathieu van der Poel, Waerenskjold's victory was secured. In a positive for the Dutchman though he did move into the overall race lead.
