Shirin van Anrooij overjoyed with Trofeo Alfredo Binda victory - "Never expected to stay away, thought they would come back"

At Trofeo Alfredo Binda, Shirin van Anrooij rode to an impressive victory, attacking 20 kilometres before the finish and holding off the competition to take the win.

This is her first win of the season on the road. "I don't believe it. It is my first victory for the team. It has always been one of my favourite races,” Van Anrooij told Lndeleiderstrui after the race.

With nearly 20 kilometres remaining, she attacked on the small climb and developed a small lead which she managed to increase to over 30 seconds in the final stretch. Although she thought the peloton would catch up with her at the end, she was pleasantly surprised to take the victory.

“I never expected to stay away. I thought they would come back and that Balsamo would then win the sprint. Somehow I managed to win this race,” concluded the Dutch rider.
