Marianne Vos has been rolling back the years at the start of 2024, taking it to the all-conquering Team SD Worx - Protime and actually taking victory at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Dwars Door Vlaanderen.
"I'm feeling good. I gained confidence from my performance on Wednesday,” said the 36-year-old legend of women's cycling in a pre-Tour of Flanders press conference. “The Tour, however, is a different story. I'm healthy nervous at the start. Everything is possible in the Flemish classics. You must always be alert. I hope to play in the final and aim for a good result. I am completely fit again after my operation. It is nice to compete for victory again.”
Given her electric form in recent weeks, it's easy to consider Vos as one of the favourites for victory in Flanders this Easter Sunday. The winner of the 2013 edition is keen to point out though, that there are plenty of other potential winners on the startline, most notable, the Rainbow Jersey wearing Lotte Kopecky.
“Am I good enough to win? It is one of the most beautiful races of the spring. There are several favourites. Lotte has been very dominant in the last two years. That will be no different on Sunday. She is the woman to beat," Vos explains. "But there is more. Lidl-Trek is also at the start with a good team. And we also want to play to our strengths.”
