Rodrigo Contreras, champion of the Tour Colombia 2024 after a final stage battle with Richard Carapaz - Jhonatan Restrepo wins final stage

Rodrigo Contreras has managed to take victory in the general classification of the Tour Colombia 2024. The Nu Colombia rider beat Richard Carapaz of EF Education-EasyPost, who tried his best to turn around his second place in the final stage of the race.

Carapaz started the final stage with a 17-second gap to Contreras, whom he had already cut another 17 seconds after his victory in stage 5. So, 15 kilometers from the finish line, with Jefferson Cepeda's attack, the EF Education-EasyPost star took advantage to go to his wheel and then ride solo to get enough advantage to take the overall win.

After Richard Carapaz's beautiful move for the victory, the race and the race organization were in evidence by all the people crossing the road to take pictures with the riders as they continued to compete. Images were even shared on X -formerly Twitter-, of the Colombian Police recording the race instead of controlling it.

But the controversy was not going to tarnish a final stage of the Tour Colombia that was proving to be very exciting. Rodrigo Contreras, who has been at a spectacular level since the beginning of the race, managed to firmly defend the attacks of Carapaz, to finally take a spectacular victory in the general classification.

Richard Carapaz, for his part, also finished second on the podium of the last stage, behind the day's winner, Jhonatan Restrepo.
