UAE Team Emirates - XRG continue to bring in win after win this year, and today they have won the Trofeo Tessile & Moda, where they were the overwhelming favourites. Adam Yates managed to take his second victory in a short space of time, being the fastest rider up Monte Oropa this Sunday afternoon.
The Italian semi-classic had a breakaway including Jimmy Janssens, Sjoerd Bax, Martin Urianstad Bugge, Thomas Guillermo Silva, Kevin Pezzo Rosola, Sinuhé Fernãndez, Manuel Oioli, Luca Verrando and Nicola Pizzi. It wouldn't be a long-lived move, it did resist until the final kilometers but the flat profile of the race allowed for the peloton to comfortably control it before the summit finish at Monte Oropa.
The 10-kilometer long climb is not brutal but makes for an interesting climbing challenge, specially this late in the season and following Il Lombardia. The men who ruled over the final monument of the season were again present, as UAE would give freedom to some of its secondary figures to fight for victory in the race.
Silva, the last survivor of the break, was caught with just under 6 kilometers to go and UAE began attacking right after with Jay Vine first, then Pavel Sivakov, who was followed by Tudor's Mathys Rondel. The Frenchman became a headache for UAE who tried to outnumber the competition, as he then attacked Sivakov and went solo off the front. That sparked a reaction behind from Adam Yates who would join Rondel up front, whilst Jay Vine attacked from the chasing group after Sivakov had been caught. UAE had all the cards in the end and although it was no easy feat, Yates managed to beat Rondel in the final sprint, benefiting from the tactical leverage he had. Rondel finished second whilst Jay Vine was third on the day.
