Wout van Aert secured overall victory at the 2026 Tour of Denmark as Rasmus Søjberg Pedersen won a chaotic final stage into Rodovre.
Søjberg Pedersen delivered victory for the Danish national team, finishing 13 seconds ahead of Max Walscheid after a major crash disrupted the closing sprint. Tom Crabbe completed the stage podium, with Giovanni Lonardi and Riley Sheehan rounding out the top five.
Van Aert crossed the line in 11th place to complete the overall victory, having entered the final day with a 21-second advantage over Lukas Kubis.
The Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider had won each of the opening three stages before Storm Ingebrigtsen ended his perfect run from the breakaway in Faaborg. Van Aert nevertheless carried a commanding position into the final stage and safely completed the job in Rodovre.

Giant break shapes final stage

The stage opened with another prolonged series of attacks as several teams attempted to place riders in the day’s escape. Christophe Laporte briefly entered a dangerous move with 114 kilometres remaining, immediately putting pressure on Henrik Breiner Pedersen’s third place overall. Uno-X Mobility reacted and brought the group back before the attacks continued.
Jensen Plowright also tried repeatedly to escape, with Van Aert personally closing one of his moves. A huge 21-rider group eventually established itself, containing representation from most of the major teams. Niklas Larsen was the best-placed rider in the move at 2:27 behind Van Aert, leaving the overall lead secure but keeping the lower podium positions under pressure.
Visma and Uno-X controlled the advantage at around one minute through much of the stage. Ashlin Barry had initially given Visma an option in the break, but a mechanical problem forced him back into the peloton.
Uno-X briefly withdrew from the chase to remove the finish-line bonus seconds from Laporte’s reach, only to return inside the final 13 kilometres as the team also pursued the stage victory.

Late catch followed by major crash

NSN Cycling Team, Lucky Sport, Uno-X and Visma combined to reduce the gap as cooperation disappeared among the escapees.
Mads Landbo launched one of the first attacks from the break before Mads Andersen moved clear as the rest of the group was caught. Matias Malmberg bridged across, while Andreas Stokbro later joined the late resistance. Uno-X completed the catch with four kilometres remaining, bringing the race back together ahead of the final sprint.
Alpecin-Premier Tech, the Danish national team, Lidl-Trek and Unibet Rose Rockets all moved forward during the closing kilometres. Søjberg Pedersen was positioned for the national team as the race passed through the final corner with 1.1 kilometres remaining.
A large crash then erupted during the sprint, splitting the field and leaving Søjberg Pedersen clear to take the final-stage victory. Walscheid won the chase for second ahead of Crabbe, while Van Aert finished safely behind the leading group.
Van Aert therefore completed his comeback race with three stage victories and the 2026 Tour of Denmark overall title.
