Davide Donati sprinted to victory on the final stage of the 2026 CRO Race in Zagreb, while Tobias Svarre safely defended his race lead to secure the biggest overall victory of his young career.
Donati timed his effort perfectly in the closing metres, overhauling an early move from Paul Magnier before holding off Lorenzo De Longhi at the line. Magnier had to settle for third, with Tim Torn Teutenberg and Erlend Blikra completing the top five.
The final stage did not alter the top of the general classification, where Svarre completed the race four seconds clear of Antonio Tiberi and eight ahead of Tim Wellens. The Uno-X Mobility rider also secured the young rider classification, while Tiberi finished as mountains winner and Carl-Frederik Bévort took the points classification.
Earlier in the day, Jon Agirre, Valentin Ferron, Andrea Bessega, Dario Giuliano and Manuele Tarozzi formed the main breakaway. Agirre briefly moved into the virtual race lead and led over the final categorised climb, but the peloton steadily cut into the advantage as the race approached Zagreb.
Cofidis then tried to upset the expected sprint through Sam Maisonobe, although his attack failed to gain enough ground to threaten the fast finish.
UAE Team Emirates-XRG helped drive the chase in the closing kilometres, with Tiberi among those working on the front, before the sprinters took over. Magnier was the first of the main contenders to commit, launching from distance in an attempt to catch his rivals out. Donati reacted immediately, came past the Frenchman and produced enough speed to keep De Longhi behind him all the way to the line.
The victory closed out the six-stage race, with Svarre crowned the 2026 CRO Race champion ahead of Tiberi and Wellens.
