After their recent success at the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team are heading to the Volta ao Algarve with a very strong lineup that includes Remco Evenepoel and Fabio Jakobsen.
“We start again with a very good team. Remco will try to get a good result on the two uphill finishes, but also in the individual time trial, which will be a really nice test. But he isn’t the only one we look forward to see what he can do there, also for Yves and Kasper it will be important, and we’re curious to discover what Louis can do in such a long ITT," DS Tom Steels said in antecipation of the five-day race.
Starting next wednesday, and alongside the Vuelta a Andalucia, the Volta ao Algarve takes the peloton through the roads of southern Portugal with a combination of opportunists for the sprinter, climbers, and a long 32 kilometer long time-trial which should be crucial for the overall classification. That stage will be of interest to Tour des Flandres defending champion Kasper Asgreen who will be starting his season in Algarve after a Covid infection delayed his schedule.
Steels added: "For the flat stages, Fabio will be our leader; he has shown his form already in Valencia and will count on Bert to lead him out. And, of course, there’s Tim, who did a very good Saudi Tour and can show his good condition again by controlling the race”.
