There was forecast of rain overnight in northern France and this scenario was confirmed. Whilst the Paris-Roubaix peloton will not have rain falling on them likely, they will be riding over wet cobblestones in some areas and with the race already starting, it will be impossible for them to dry in the coming hours.
Sources on the ground reported that as early as 23:00h on Saturday night there was already rain falling in the area. Overnight some of the sectors have gotten wet and muddy, something which will be noticed today. It is not a case of one sector or another, instead social media this morning is flooded with pictures and clips of several sectors which are very far from dry.
In some cases, as for example sector 7 - as shown by ProCyclingStats - the sector is in fact fully muddy, with both sides of the road wet and only the very middle a little drier. In several sectors, this is likely to force the riders to avoid the sides of the road, something which they usually try to ride the most to save energy.
