Lotto Dstny have announced the arrival of the 27-year-old, British, rider Chris Lawless to their set-up on an agreement until the end of the season. Sports manager, Kurt Van de Wouwer is delighted with his new signing.
“A rider like Chris Lawless who has extensive experience at pro level is a very useful addition to Lotto Dstny,” Van de Wouwer explains to Lotto Dstny's official website. Initially at least, ther former INEOS Grenadier and TotalEnergies rider will join up with Lotto Dstny's developmental team, using his experience to help the next generation progress.
“His strengths are mainly to be found in the sprint preparation, but he can also handle himself in the one-day races. That is why we seized this opportunity and he will race for the Lotto Dstny Development Team," says Van de Wouwer. "He will mainly share his experience with the youngsters. Besides, Chris will also be deployed in races with the ProTeam, where he can be an added value for our sprint leaders Caleb Ewan and Arnaud De Lie.”
Lawless's debut for his new team will come at the Rutland-Milton Cicle Classic on 23 April with the seven-day Tour de Bretagne in France, soon following. “To join such an iconic team as Lotto Dstny is something I’m really excited about and I’m grateful for this opportunity,” Lawless says. "Hopefully I can help them in becoming better bike riders and of course, I’d like to help guys like Caleb Ewan or Arnaud De Lie as well. The one-day Classics and sprint races are the ones I feel I can perform in. Of course, I’d also like to show what I’m still capable of but the main focus will be about sharing my experience in the team.”
