It's been a long and successful season for
Remco Evenepoel in 2024. From his first victory in Portugal all the way back on the 10th of February, to a Tour de France podium, double Olympic gold and another time trial world title, Evenepoel is beginning to feel the affects.
The main goal for the remainder of the Belgian's campaign is
Il Lombardia and his preparation for the final monument of the season continues this Monday afternoon at
Coppa Bernocchi, a race he knows well having emerged victorious in his only previous participation back in 2021.
“The final is a bit different now,” Evenepoel previews to the VTM Nieuws cameras ahead of the 2024 edition however. “Three years ago, there was even more climbing to be done. Now there is only the local lap, the rest of the way to the finish is quite flat. I think there will be some racing on the local lap. We can attack, but also go for the sprint with Raccagni. Then we'll see what comes of it.”
As mentioned though, given the long and draining season, both physically and mentally, Evenepoel is beginning to feel the effects of his actions. "I feel that my batteries are starting to run out," he admits. "But I’m just going to do my best and see what I can still do. If I never feel at my best in these races leading up to Lombardy, I won’t go all out until the end. But yes, the intention is to be in good shape on Saturday and go for a good result.”
