Info @Gazzetta_it - @FndoGaviria won't continue with @TeamEmiratesUAE, his contract ends at end 2022. According to our sources he could join @Movistar_Team in 2023 @cycling_podcast @elcyclingpod
Fernando Gaviria is set to change jerseys this winter, as a renewal with UAE Team Emirates will not be happening, and the 28-year old is looking for a new team to represent in the 2023 season.
With Pascal Ackermann and Alvaro Hodeg already under contract for 2023, and an increasingly high focus in the mountains and stage-races, the Colombian finds himself in a position where he no longer fits with the team's priorities. Like it's former sprinter Alexander Kristoff, Gaviria has also criticized the team's equipment, seeing as the team and Colnago have not been able to gather that reaches the parameters of rival brands when it comes to the sprinters.
In Movistar Gaviria could be riding a Canyon. According to journalist Ciro Scognamiglio, Gaviria could be heading to the Spanish team, where the lack of an established sprinter could see him take a leading position in the team - specially with the retirement of Alejandro Valverde imminent.
Gaviria has won two stages at the Tour of Oman this year, but has not been able to take others. He has for the last few months struggled to get results, but he has earlier in the year finished second at Eschborn - Frankfurt and second on two occasions at the Giro d'Italia, showing he still has the legs to take wins at the highest level.
