Victory has gone to Cofidis' Milan Fretin at the 2025 Clasica de Almeria, as the Belgian denied the XDS Astana Team's Max Kanter in a frantic sprint for the line in Spain.
Six riders had formed the break of the day. At 50km to go though, just three remained out ahead, although with the peloton still only around 1:00 down, there didn't seem much realistic chance for the attackers to hold on. By 30km to go, the sprint trains were already gathering at the front of the peloton, fighting for position. Thanks to the rising in the pace of the bunch, with 18km to go, all the day's attackers had been swallowed up by the peloton.
Following the catch, the pace continued to just get quicker and quicker as the teams fought for position ahead of the now seemingly inevitable bunch sprint finale. After what felt like a long, tension-building wait, the sprint for the line finally began with an acceleration from Astana's Max Kanter, but in the end the victory went to Cofidis' Milan Fretin.
