Matthews and Mezgec lead Team BikeExchange - Jayco at Bretagne Classic

Team BikeExchange - Jayco are starting the Bretagne Classic with six riders, however with high ambitions as they bring in several riders well suited to the French classic in which Michael Matthews will be a main favourite.

Matthews will be returning to racing after the Tour de France, as his Clasica San Sebastian was disappointing and seen him not complete the race. Matthews was the winner of the race in 2020, and the man who finished second on that day Luka Mezgec will be teaming up. Both riders are fit for the classics-style racing and the flat finish in Plouay suit the duo, with Dion Smith another option for the finale.

“I’m really looking forward to going back to Plouay and the Bretagne Classic, last time I was there I was able to win the race, which was one of my big goals in my career," Matthews said in a press release. "It’s such a beautiful race and I love the roads around there. I’m really excited to return this year, obviously I’m not defending the title, but I didn’t get to go back last year after winning in 2020, so it will be good to be back again and I think we have a great team for it too.” Jan Maas, Tanel Kangert and Tsgabu Grmay complete the lineup in search of a strong result.
