Martijn Tusveld becomes 26th rider to abandon Giro d'Italia

Team DSM's Martijn Tusveld has become the 26th different rider forced to abandon this year's Giro d'Italia. A crash on stage 2 that Tusveld hasn't fully recovered from has ultimately taken its tole.

"After his crash earlier in the race, Martijn Tusveld has abandoned the Giro d'Italia," an official announcement made by the Team DSM Twitter account has revealed. "Finally succumbing to the injuries he sustained on stage 2. We hope to see you back soon, Martijn!"

The total of riders who started the race no longer be part of the peloton for one reason or another has now risen to 26. The likes of Remco Evenepoel and Filippo Ganna have been ruled out due to positive covid tests and just today, Aleksandr Vlasov was forced to abandon due to illness.
