FDJ - Suez's Marta Cavalli has long been regarded as one of the brightest talents in the women's peloton but sadly for the 25-year-old Italian, her career has been consistently blighted by injuries.
Bad luck has once again struck for the former Amstel Gold Race and Fleche Wallone winner among other successes after a training camp crash in Benidorm. "Medical examinations confirmed a bone contusion to the pelvis," confirms an official announcement from her team.
"Marta is an exceptional athlete and a key piece of our team. His health and recovery are our top priority," says General Manager of FDJ - Suez, Stephen Delcourt. "We are all behind her to support her during this difficult time. Her courage and determination inspire us, and we are confident in her ability to come back stronger than ever."
Cavalli previously had a very serious fall during the 2022 Tour de France and struggled for a long while afterwards, suffering from mental anguish and anxiety as a result of the crash. Some positive results towards the end of 2023 looked to have signalled a return to form and hopefully, this new setback won't cause too much damage.
