Mario Cipollini has always had the reputation of a charismatic figure, frequently in the media after his retirement, however often for bad reasons. The former Italian superstar has been sentenced to three years in prison due to domestic violence.
Cipollini - now 55 years of age - has been accused by his ex-wife of injuries and threats against her and her current partner. The case has been ongoing for a while, but this Monday the course in Lucca has confirmed the sentence of the former sprinter. 3 years in jail and a €85.000 compensation to his ex-partner come as a consequence of his actions.
Journalist Daniel Friebe has however informed that Cipollini's lawyers will appeal, with the hopes of being able to reverse the outcome.
