Marc Hirschi wins the 2023 Tour de Luxembourg as late attacks sees Tobias Johannessen victorious on final stage

Tobias Johannessen has taken victory on stage 5 of the 2023 Tour de Luxembourg after a late attack as Marc Hirschi held onto his Yellow Jersey to take overall GC victory.

After the break was reeled in with around 40km to go, Andrea Bagioli launched a counter-attack and moved clear solo. Once he was caught, Richard Carapaz then tried his luck solo although he was soon joined by Alexis Guerin.

As the riders reached the final ascent towards the finish line however, a twelve-rider group had pulled around half a minute clear of a second group that contained race leader Marc Hirschi. The key attack was made by UNO-X Pro Cycling Team's Tobias Johannessen ahead of Alex Aranburu in second.
