Tim Merlier has consistently proven himself as one of the leading sprinters in the entire peloton over the last few seasons. The Belgian's continued success has been rewarded by Soudal - Quick-Step now too, with a long-term contract extension.
As mentioned, Merlier has emerged a true sprinting force in recent years. With 50 victories on his palmares ahead of the 2025 season getting underway, Merlier celebrated 16 successes in 2024, including three stages of the Giro d'Italia, three stages of the UAE Tour, a pair of stages at the AlUla Tour and the Baloise Belgium Tour, plus the European Championship title among other race wins.
Merlier has also been confirmed for a first appearance at the Tour de France in Soudal - Quick-Step colours in 2025, as he continued good form forces his team's hand. The 32-year-old is set to share leadership at the most watched cycling race on the planet with his compatriot Remco Evenepoel later this summer, as announced at the team presentation.
Also announced at the team presentation though was contract extensions for both Merlier and his main leadout man Bert van Lerberghe. "Tim Merlier and Bert van Lerberghe have agreed to a new deal with Soudal - Quick-Step until the end of 2028," announces an update to the official social media pages of the Soudal - Quick-Step team.

This guy is making a very stupid decision. His agent should have brought him superior offers. He is going to play 2nd fiddle to Remco and then wonder why he isn't at the TDF or missing all GTs in a season.

I doubt he and Remco will have much to argue over, they can both do their thing. All things considered, I doubt he’d have gotten a better deal. Maybe he’s the type that likes to stick with what he knows?
