Lidl-Trek continue signing spree as Ryan Gibbons arrives from UAE Team Emirates

Lidl-Trek have continued to reinforce their ranks ready for the 2024 season with yet another signing. This time around it's Ryan Gibbons that joins from UAE Team Emirates.

The 29-year-old former South African national champion will join Lidl-Trek on a two-year contract having spent three years with UAE Team Emirates. “Lidl-Trek has always been a team that I have liked and truly interested me,” shared Gibbons to his new employers' website. “The setup seems to be very professional but also personable, and the atmosphere between riders, staff, and management has also looked to be genuine and positive. They have proven to be one of the most successful teams in the peloton over the past few years, and their ambition is exciting. I cannot wait to be a part of this incredible setup and play a part in the Team reaching its goals.”

“I am very motivated to race alongside one of the best riders in the world, Mads Pedersen, and hopefully contribute to many victories for him in his lead out,” Gibbons added. “I’m able to climb and TT a little on my day too, so aim to be able to be multidimensional and also assist the team as a whole in all areas. I am naturally still ambitious to achieve my own results whenever possible and when the opportunity presents itself. I’d love to be able to win in the Lidl-Trek colours and be part of many other big victories within the Team.”

“Ryan is a quality rider who we have recruited to make our lead out even stronger than it already is. His versatility is a big plus for us: he can climb well, therefore will be able to contribute in the finals of the more difficult races," Luca Guercilena, General Manager of Lidl-Trek said of his newest acquisition. "Beyond a sporting sense, from our conversations with Ryan we think his character is a good fit for our team values and the atmosphere we have strived to build.”
