Liane Lippert upset with another fourth place in World Championships - "We didn't work together well enough in the leading group. That was very frustrating and annoying,"
The World Championships for Women concluded with Annemiek van Vleuten’s victory. Liane Lippert crossed the line in fourth place. This was her second time finishing fourth, earlier she also missed the podium by one position in World Championships Mixed Relay.
"We didn't work together well enough in the leading group. That was very frustrating and annoying,” said Lippert. She was in a leading position at Mount Pleasant, riding ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini, but she couldn’t enjoy it for much longer. "That was actually a very nice situation. Unfortunately, we didn't go 100%," Lippert said.
She continues, "I went full out every time on the climb. It was very annoying and frustrating that we didn't work well together because I felt like I had a really good chance for a medal. I felt very strong, and I even started dreaming of the rainbow jersey."
Lippert already accepted defeat from Annemiek Van Vleuten, but she still had the spirit to fight for silver. "I started my sprint very early. In the end I was at my limit and exploded. I wanted, after Van Vleuten jumped away, to get on the podium. That that didn't work out is frustrating at this point.”
But she missed the podium with one position and finished fourth. She concluded with, "I did show myself well at the World Cup. I can draw confidence from it for the last races of the year.”
💬"I felt super strong today and when I was in that group I started to believe and dream in the rainbow jersey but it was just frustrating when everyone didn’t fully commit to it." - @LianeLippert
