Julie Van de Velde will complete her competition kilometers from 2024 in the AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step kit. The 30-year-old rider comes over from Fenix-Deceuninck. Her focus in the new team will mainly be on her role as a climber.
Van de Velde is very enthusiastic about the coming season. "I got a great opportunity to join AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step. I immediately felt confident in my abilities," she said through her new employer. "What also appeals to me about this team is the professionalism, combined with a family atmosphere. It is also great to see how the team has grown in recent years, with special attention to the youth. I really admire it: building something so beautiful from youth."
"I hope to make a valuable contribution to the team's ambitions, especially in the climbing races. My goal is to support the team in achieving great results. Also getting my own opportunities as a wild card would be great. I see my role in the new team as very versatile. I want to be of added value as a domestique in tougher races, while as a attacker I enthusiastically participate in breakaways to compete for stage victories or to put my teammates in the position to win."
Van de Velde finished thirteenth in the Tour de Suisse last season. She was also at the start of the Tour de France Femmes and in the third stage she almost achieved the biggest victory of her career. Van de Velde was in the lead for a long time that day who was reeled in just hundreds of meters from the line after a heroic effort.
