Aside from the fact he is undoubtedly the best Grand Tour rider in the peloton today,
Jonas Vingegaard seems like a truly decent human being. Showing off this side of himself once again, the recent
Tour de France winner spent time with a young boy battling cancer.
As the
Jumbo-Visma rider continues to do his rounds, gaining all the plaudits and celebratory congratulations that go with winning the Tour de France, Vingegaard personally invited young Liam Børre Bastrup to one such meet and greet and ensured that Liam would be at the front of the queue for an autograph.
" A picture was posted on social media with my son, where he is wearing a Jonas Vingegaard cap. Jonas and Trine saw that and invited us," explains Liam's father Martin Børre Bastrup. "The cap has become special for Liam because when he is not wearing it, there is not much hair. He has cancer. Then we were invited here, and have now got an autograph. It is big and touching."
Vingegaard proceeded to gift Liam a signed Yellow Jersey from the Tour de France in a touching moment that brought a tear to many eyes. "It's cool, I'm very happy," said Liam afterwards, surely gaining a lifelong memory thanks to the care and compassion shown by one cycling's biggest names.
